A digital factory for personalized competitions, surveys and contests: this is how the Federation of Migros Cooperatives makes its campaign managers and their end customers happy. As an integrated design and development team, we helped to develop the Digital Campaign Factory on its feet.

The result

Migros employees are given a flexible tool: for example, they can click together an advent calendar and hide surveys and prizes behind the doors. Can it be more playful? Sure! With a memory game about cat food brands - the main prize: a year's worth of cat food - you can score points with your favorite target groups. Or, quite simply and in keeping with the season, launch a photo competition for the fluffiest bath towels from the range after the summer vacation.

Campaign managers are guided step by step from the start and end date to the title and prize description, translations, sponsor logo and image upload to the selection of mandatory fields in the entry form. The intermediate status can be checked at any time using the preview function. Once mandatory content such as the campaign's privacy policy has been entered, a code snippet is generated and integrated into the landing page within minutes.

The procedure

To enable Migros to launch the first campaign as quickly as possible, we followed the MVP concept. This meant that the first widgets could be used after a short time and the feedback was incorporated into the iterative optimization.

The Scrum team consists of smartive and Migros employees. Agile collaboration is the key to success: the values Focus and Commitment quality and productivity are the top priority for everyone, the exchange of know-how is ensured and the work is even more fun.

Not only do we develop widgets, we also share best practices through consistent, clean code reviews and Lightning Tech Talks. Design reviews are also an integral part and align UX and development. We clear obstacles out of the way in retrospectives. And don't forget: the Co-Working Day always opens up opportunities for an after-work beer together. Or an iced tea classic from Migros.

The combination makes the difference

One CMS, one API and widgets for all cases: The Digital Campaign Factory is a campaign tool that has an answer to every requirement. This is ensured by the specially developed CMS solution, which makes data entry in the admin area simple and yet powerful: with the integrated rich text editor, content can be designed to your own taste and translations can be entered quickly. Each widget can be shared with colleagues so that they can work together on the content.

Cloud: maximum flexibility, maximum control

Thanks to TypeScript, we know what our data is like: round or square, letters or a jumble of numbers. We define these data types exactly once and use them everywhere - even on Google Firestore. The system has no trouble even with thousands of simultaneous queries. Thanks to the power of the Firestore database and the scalable cloud setup - automatically and therefore with minimal costs.
