How many people could you help out of poverty with 1% of your income? Instead of making a one-off donation to an organisation and not quite knowing where the money ends up, Social Income focuses on regular support: monthly, reliable – and directly from phone to phone.

Not once. Every month.

One-off aid fades quickly. Regular income creates real impact. That’s why Social Income provides monthly payments over three years – creating the foundation people need to plan, invest and sustainably work their way out of poverty. For long-term support to work, it needs to be distributed fairly and transparently.

Direct Cash Transfers

Many people living in poverty don’t have a bank account – but they do have a mobile phone. Social Income uses direct cash transfers to send money straight to recipients’ phones, via local mobile money services. No paperwork. No conditions.

Our role

smartive rebuilt the existing open-source platform within the community, both technically and conceptually. A new architecture, data migration and a completely redesigned UX/UI now form the foundation of Social Income. Our contribution was delivered at cost price – driven by the belief that good software can create real impact.

Self-service programmes & fundraising

Social Income doesn’t just run its own donation programmes – it also enables NGOs to set up and finance their own initiatives. Target group, country, duration and number of recipients can all be defined flexibly, while fundraising campaigns are seamlessly integrated and managed through a single platform.

One central platform for everyone involved

Social Income is more than a public website. Through a single login, all stakeholders access the platform: donors track their contributions, recipients see their payments, local partners manage recipients, and organisations oversee programmes and fundraising. Everything in one place. Clear roles. One login.

Technology that scales

The platform is built with Next.js and runs on Google Cloud Platform, orchestrated with Terraform and secured via Firebase Auth. Storyblok is used as a headless CMS for content. For recipients, there is an additional mobile app built with Flutter, optimised for simple devices and unstable network conditions.

Open Source

The Social Income platform is fully open source. Code, architecture and ongoing development are publicly accessible and community-driven. Transparency is not a side effect – it’s a core principle.
